Who We Are
Bob Frater is a highly respected CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner who has provided total financial planning service for his clients since 1980. Bob Frater is founder of the Houston Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (the precursor of the Financial Planning Association) and has served on the Board of Directors at state and national levels. As a recognized leader in the financial planning community, he was awarded the "1997 Houston CFP® of the Year1" by the Institute of Certified Financial Planners. Bob is also the CEO of Houston Asset Management, Inc.
Bob is a contributing author of the book How to Invest Today published in 1995 and Taking Charge of your Financial Future published in 1998. A frequently sought after speaker on financial and retirement topics, Bob's audiences have included M.D. Anderson, Neiman Marcus, HL&P, the Mayor's Showcase of Aging, and American Institute of Architects. Bob has also contributed to articles in local newspapers and national magazines, including MONEY, Houston Chronicle, and Journal of Financial Planning. Bob also has been interviewed on KPRC Channel 2, KTRK Channel 13, and CNN 650 News Radio.
He is a Registered Principal with SagePoint Financial, Inc., a registered broker/dealer firm member of FINRA and SIPC. He is also an Investment Advisor Representative for Houston Asset Management, Inc., a Registered Investment Advisor not affiliated with SagePoint Financial, Inc.
His clientele include many closely held corporations, executives, and professionals across the U.S. Bob graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin, Stout with a B.S. in Business in 1976 and received his CFP® certification in 1984. Mr. Frater has been a resident of the Houston Heights since 1978, but spends a lot of time with family in Wisconsin.
Bob and his wife Kelly have two sons, Gordon and Ted. Bob has been very active and has held leadership positions in community and professional organizations. When not fulfilling the needs of clients, Bob is a skier, musician, canoeist, woodworker, and Rotarian.
